Popularly known as "The Big Gig", this unforgettable live music experience comes live at the 75-acre Henry Maier Festival Park along the lake front in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 75-acre festival grounds include the 23,000 seat Marcus Amphitheater, along with 10 other stage areas and state of the art facilities. Summerfest is a festival where fun never ends. Besides providing an opportunity to relish a wide variety of food from many Milwaukee-area restaurants, the Summerfest also includes highlights like comedy acts, shopping vendors, fireworks, other special attractions, family activities and more. The Summerfest music festival traces its origin back in 1960's when the that time reigning mayor Henry W. Maier decided to start a large-scale summer festival alike to that of Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Around 1965, panel of business and civic leaders drew up a proposal for a 10-day multi-event festival with the proposed name of "Milwaukee World Festival," which was changed briefly in 1966 to "Juli Spab" (German for "July Fun") and then to "Summerfest".
