Regarded as carnival capital of the World, Rio de Janeiro is home to world's biggest Carnival. The Rio de Janeiro arts carnival is a benchmark event and one of the most interesting artistic celebrations on the planet. Involving a wild 4 day celebration, the Rio carnival fficially starts on Saturday and finishes on Fat Tuesday with the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday after which one is supposed to abstain from all bodily pleasures.

This annual mega event is very important to the Brazilians as it acts a as a showcase of their beliefs and pinciples. Celebrated as a profane event, the carnival can be considered as an act of farewell to the pleasures of flesh. The celebrations involve dancing, singing, party and having loads of fun. A major highlight of Rio carnival is the "samba" music. During the month of february, it's the carnival all over the place, in the streets, quares, bars, clubs and all other venues, taking over the whole city of Rio and culminating in the Rio Carnival Parade also known as the Samba Parade.
